Website Mistake #12 - Columns Too Wide

A common problem with websites today is column widths that seem to be growing right along with monitor sizes. Just because the monitor sizes are bigger doesn’t mean your website copy should be. We imagine there will be some changes as monitor sizes grow but a good rule of thumb is that your sales page should be no wider than about 760 pixels, with 1000 pixels being the topside limit.

The talk was actually about search engine optimisation, but it quickly turned into a debate on DIY websites versus professionally built websites, sparked off by a gentleman who stuck his arm in the air and said, “Why don’t I just pick a great WordPress template, for free, and save myself a lot of money?”
